During our Family Learning sessions both parents and children will be introduced to a range of different stories and non-fiction texts and will carry out a range of activities based around these books. The most important thing we want you to take away from these sessions is the understanding that books help to improve vocabulary, extend language and develop imagination.
Week 1 - 23rd April 2018
Where the Wild Things Are
We read the story ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. Both children and parents were encouraged to retell the story in their own words. The children then used a variety of resources to create their own monster stick puppets.
Week 2 - 30th April 2018
Winnie the Witch
We read the story ‘Winnie the Witch.’ Children and parents looked through the text and located certain words that were used in potions. The children were then encouraged to think of words they could use to create their own magical spell. Finally the children used a variety of different resources to create their own magical potions.

Non-Fiction Animal Books
We looked at the different features of Non Fiction books, including a contents page, photographs, a glossary and an index. After learning some interesting facts about different animals, the children used a variety of resources to create their own animal stick puppet.
