Sparkly Light Festivals & Celebrations
Communication and Language
Children will learn to:
- Look at and talk about different festivals and celebrations such as Diwali and Christmas.
- Engage in different activities such as writing cards and talking about how Christians and Hindus celebrate these festivals.
- Learn about some traditional tales such as Goldilocks and The Three Bears story and The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
- Role play and retell the stories using book language such as once upon a time, the next day.
- Focus on a beginning, a middle and an ending to our stories and begin to create our own stories.
- Learning new words such as fireworks, rangoli, battle, kidnap.
Personal Social and Emotional Development
Children will learn to:
- Play alongside other children
- Play with one other child
- Share and take turns with the equipment
- Know the class charter and continue to follow the rules set in Autumn 1
- To begin to identify and name their feelings in the morning such as I feel happy, sad or worried and to talk about this.
Physical Development
Children will learn to:
- Use the large equipment outside such as target practice, hoppers and spinning tops, bean bags and ribbons.
- Use large movements to develop large muscles such as running, crawling, hopping and skipping.
- Work with others to learn outdoor games such as Farmer's in the Den and Whats the time Mr wolf.
- Develop small motor skills using a range of tools such as pencils, crayons, felt tips, paint brushes and chalks.
- Negotiates space when running, jumping and chasing outside; adjusting speed or changing direction.
Literacy
Key texts: Non-fiction books about Diwali and Christmas,
Goldilocks and the three bears and Three Billy goats gruff.
Children will learn to:
- Tell and re-tell known and familiar stories
- Listen to a wide range of stories and poems and rhymes
- Learn new songs in Music
- Learn the phonemes of the graphemes s,a,t,p,i,n,m,d,g,o,c,k ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, ff, l, ll, j, v, w, x
- read phase 2 tricky words and start to blend words with two letters such as at, am, up, is, it, on, an, of
- Learn how to write a card
- Write a story map about the key text
Mathematics
Key Books: 1,2,3 at the Zoo, Round is the Moon cake, 5 Little Fiends, Bear n a Square.
Children will learn to:
- Represent, sort, match and compare 1,2,3,4,5
- Composite and to arrange of 4 and 5
- Compare one more and one less
- Identify the properties of 2 D flat shapes such as circle, triangle, square and rectangle. To sort and make shape pictures.
- Sequence an activity.
Understanding the World
Children will learn to:
- Differentiate the different beliefs and that people celebrate special times like Diwali and Christmas in different ways.
- See the changes in the natural world and identify the seasons.
- Use technology for their own purposes such as games on IWB.
Expressive Arts and Design
Children will learn to:
- Explore colour and colour mixing.
- Explore different textures such as fabric, clay, paint and collage work.
- Safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques.
- Sing in a group and build their own repertoire of songs and nursery rhymes.
