Monday 1st June

Practical counting holiday clothes

Cut out the number cards attached below with your child. Your child can have a go at this themselves if you show them how to hold the scissors correctly. As they cut out each number encourage them to tell you what the number is. Use the numbers your child knows (0-5/0 -10 or 0-20) and only introduce one or two more numbers as a challenge for them and tell them the numbers they don't know yet.

Ask your child to find some holiday clothes they have at home - these could be shorts, t shirts, hats, sunglasses, sandals, socks etc and a bag. Ask you child to close their eyes and you place some clothes in the bag. When they open their eyes they can count the amount of holiday clothes and choose the correct number card to match the amount of clothes. Encourage your child to say one number name at a time and take out one item of clothing from the bag at a time. Repeat this a few times with your child using different amounts of clothes in the bag.

Tuesday 2nd June

Cut out the ice cream cones and ice creams separately. Encourage your child to count the amount of sprinkles on the top of the ice cream and match it to the correct number cone. Remind your child to give one number name to each sprinkle and touch each one with their finger each time and not to count too fast. Use the numbers your child knows (0-5/0 -10 or 0-20) and only introduce one or two more numbers as a challenge for them and tell them the numbers they don't know.

Wednesday 3rd June

Cut out the tops of the ice creams with your child (bottom pages). They are different ways of representing numbers for example on dice/ numicon circles. Encourage your child to count the amount of dots/ numicom circles on the ice creams and match it to the correct numbered cone. Use the numbers your child knows (0-5/0 -10 or 0-20) and only introduce one or two more numbers as a challenge for them and tell them the numbers they don't know.

Thursday 4th June

Encourage your child to practise writing the numbers first using the sheet below.
