Wider Curriculum

Monday 4th May 2020

 

Ask your child if they know the names of any plants? If you have any plants in your home or in your garden show them to your child. Can they name the features of these plants? Can they point to where the roots are? Can they point to the stem, petals and the flower?

 

Show your child the Fruit and Vegetable Information cards below. Ask them to think about a time when they have eaten either or these fruits or vegetables. Did they like them? How did they taste? What words can they think of to describe how they look and taste? Ask your child to think about talk about the similarities and differences between these fruits and vegetables. Where are they grown? Which country do they come from?

 

Challenge: Using the ‘How to Grow a Plant’ posters below, encourage your child to sequence them in the correct order. 

Tuesday 5th May 2020

Encourage your child to create their own unique plant pot. They can use paper cups, the bottom part of a recycled bottle or a plastic cups to decorate if you don not have a plant pot. Here are some ideas how the children can decorate their pots.

 

Challenge: Once your child has completed designing their pot, encourage them to read their instructions from yesterday to plant a seed.

 

 

 

Wednesday 6th May 2020

 

Encourage your child to choose their own resources to either decorate or create masks of the characters from The Tiger Who Came to Tea story. These masks will be used for a role-play activity next week.

Thursday 7th May 2020

 

Tomorrow the 8th of May, will mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day. It will be the first day of a long weekend featuring numerous commemorative events across the country. Please watch the following PowerPoint to explain the significance of VE day and why we celebrate it.

The children can colour in the Union Jack flag and stick it on a window.
