Curriculum Overview

Overall School Vision - Every child to be the best that they can be.

Values - We show respect. We make the right choices. We roll up our sleeves.

Intent

In PSHCE, we teach our children the skills, knowledge and understanding to enable them to play an active, positive role in society. We encourage children to be confident, resilient and to understand their rights and responsibilities. We promote a culture of respect, empathy and caring for others. Having the ability to stay safe and healthy is a high priority and children are equipped to make informed decisions.

Implementation

At Uxendon Manor we follow a whole school PSHCE scheme called ‘Jigsaw’.

Jigsaw combines PSHCE, emotional literacy, mindfulness, social skills and spiritual development. All year groups work on the same theme (puzzle) at the same time. Each year group is taught one lesson per week and all lessons are delivered in an age- and stage-appropriate way so that they meet children’s needs. Jigsaw aims to help children know and value who they really are and how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world.

Impact

Children make a positive contribution to society. They are confident, resilient and well-rounded individuals. They care for themselves and for others. They recognise their own rights as citizens but understand that with rights come responsibilities. Children can apply their skills and attributes to understand and cope with a range of real-life challenges.
