P.E. at School

At Uxendon, pupils have 1 hour and 40 minutes of PE timetabled each week, consisting of 1 hour of indoor PE and 40 minutes of outdoor PE. Through these lessons, we develop the physical literacy skills set out in the National Curriculum, ensuring that all children build confidence, competence and enjoyment in physical activity.

In addition to timetabled PE, all pupils take part in the Daily Mile, promoting regular physical activity and supporting pupils' physical and mental wellbeing.

Children in Years 4 and 5 have the opportunity to participate in weekly swimming lessons, and we aim for all pupils leaving the school to be able to swim at least 25 metres.

Key sporting values, including teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship, are developed through a wide range of sports, including football, netball, basketball, badminton and athletics. All pupils have the opportunity to participate in a variety of intra-school competitions, tournaments and sports festivals, as well as competitions with other schools. Every class has a team of Active Leaders who support teachers during PE lessons by leading warm-ups, cool-downs and encouraging active participation. Our Year 6 House Captains play an important leadership role by organising and leading intra-school competitions, supporting Sports Day and acting as positive role models for younger pupils. We also have a dedicated team of Girls Active Leaders, who work together to promote girls' participation in physical activity. They lead and organise clubs and activities, encourage other girls to become more active, and help create positive opportunities for all pupils to enjoy sport and physical activity. We are proud to have achieved the Platinum School Games Mark in recognition of our continued commitment to providing high-quality PE, school sport and physical activity opportunities for all pupils. This national award celebrates our sustained excellence in promoting participation, competition, leadership and inclusion across the school.
