Anti-Racism at Uxendon Manor
Anti-Racism
Uxendon Manor Primary is a warm, welcoming community where every child, family, and staff member belongs. We are fully committed to being an actively anti-racist school, ensuring that our environment is safe, fair, and kind for everyone and are committed to taking forward anti-racist practice.
We are ambitious, caring and inclusive in working for every child. As professionals, we will work jointly, with our children, our families, our staff and with other professionals, in building on the strong work already taking place in our school.
At Uxendon Manor Primary, we are committed to creating an equitable environment, where all cultures and identities are recognised and feel empowered to explore and express what matters to them. Through an anti-racist approach, we work with our staff, parents and children to ensure our provision responds to the diverse needs of our learners and their communities. Our aim is to support the children in understanding their own rights and the rights of others; show tolerance and celebrate diversity in society and understand the consequences of racism and have the ability to challenge it.
What is Anti-Racism?
Being anti-racist means more than just being "not racist." It means recognizing that racism exists and actively choosing to identify, challenge, and change it.
An anti-racist school does not stay silent or passive. We roll up our sleeves to dismantle barriers, challenge stereotypes, and ensure that our policies, curriculum, and daily interactions actively promote true equality for every child.

We are on a continuous journey to live out this commitment every day through our three core school values:
Living our values every day:
We show respect, We make the right choices, We roll up our sleeves.
- We Show Respect:
We celebrate our wonderfully diverse school community and cherish the differences that make each of us unique. Unkind words, stereotypes, or unfair treatment based on someone’s skin colour, culture, or heritage have no place in our school. We treat everyone with equal kindness and dignity.
- We Make the Right Choices:
As an anti-racist school, we will empower our pupils to be "upstanders" rather than bystanders. We will give children the tools and confidence to make the right choices—speaking up out loud and supporting their peers if they ever see or hear something that isn’t fair.
- We Roll Up Our Sleeves:
Being an anti-racist school means taking active steps. We will roll up our sleeves to fill our classrooms with diverse books, lessons, and toys that reflect the wider world.
Our staff, children, Parents and Governors will engage in ongoing training, and we will work hard to ensure every child sees themselves represented and valued in their learning.
How Parents & Carers Can Help at Home
We can only achieve this by working hand-in-hand with our families and the whole school community. We are very grateful that our community works very closely with us on the important issues which matter to all of us.
Here is how you can support our anti-racist mission at home:
- Talk Openly About Race:
Children notice differences from a young age. Celebrate these differences openly and positively, rather than avoiding the conversation.
- Diversify Media & Books:
Fill your home with books, films, and toys that feature protagonists from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and races.
- Encourage the "Right Choice":
Talk to your child about what it means to be a good friend. Remind them that if they hear an unkind remark about someone's identity, making the right choice means telling an adult straight away.
